Transportation

Coalition for a Livable Future advocates for a more sustainable and equitable transportation system as a means to creating a healthier, more prosperous Portland metro region.

Our region is considered a leader in sustainable transportation planning, yet we still suffer from inequities in transportation access.  We are working toward a transportation system that supports public health and equity in order to reduce disparities and support the health of all communities in the region.  Our strategy is to provide leadership, policy guidance, and coordination of our member organizations and key allies on regional transportation policy and issues of regional significance.

CLF Transportation Program has three major focus areas:

  • CRC Mega-Highway Expansion: CLF led the opposition to I-5 expansion at the Columbia River Crossing for nine years.  The project was finally called off on March 7, 2014.
  • Long Term Planning:  CLF supports local and regional transportation planning for healthy, equitable communities.  CLF is a trusted leader on transportation planning, and regional leaders look to us to provide direction on a range of issues.
  • Coalition Building:  CLF works with nonprofit and other partners to support a transportation system that works for everyone, and particularly for the system to work better for the many people impacted by the transportation system.

We have engaged on a wide range of projects and issues, including Metro’s Climate Smart Communities project, Regional Transportation Plan, and Regional Flexible Funds; Transportation System Plan updates by Clackamas County, Gresham, and Portland; Oregon Mosaic/Least Cost Planning; the Barbur Boulevard Concept Plan; and Sustainable Transportation Council’s development of STARS Safety, Health and Equity Credits.
