City Club Vote on Report on Bicycle Transportation

Event Date:
June 7, 2013 - 11:30am to 12:15pm

From City Club of Portland:

This Friday, June 7, the City Club will be voting on a new Report on Bicycle Transportation in Portland

The draft report has an excellent premise:  “[T]he right question is no longer ‘Should we promote bicycle use?’ It is: ‘How should we structure our transportation system to optimize choice, efficiency and safety for all modes of transportation, including bicycling?’”  It then makes a number of recommendations, including identification of projects and priorities to promote bicycling, strategic investments to emphasize connectivity and safety, a strategy for funding, and greater stakeholder representation on the city’s Bicycle Advisory Committee.

Debate on the report will start on Friday at 11:30am, at the Governor Hotel.  Reservations for the luncheon forum (where the keynote speaker is Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici, who will be speaking about the education system) can be made here.  While the public may attend, only City Club members can vote on adoption of the report.

There is also a town hall meeting this Wednesday to discuss the report.
