Legislators Continue Maneuvers with CRC Highway Mega-project

First – the good news. Thanks to people like you who expressed their concerns, a bill promoting the CRC highway mega-project and asking the federal government for billions of dollars in funding has been amended and slowed down.

But our work is not yet done. The bill remains alive, as the House Transportation and Economic Development Committee amended HJM 22 and passed it out of their committee on a 6-2 vote.

Rather than heading to the floor for a vote, the bill was sent to the House Revenue Committee for additional conversations and possible amendments. That committee is co-chaired by Rep. Phil Barnhart and Rep. Vicki Berger. Other committee members are Rep. Katie Eyre Brewer, Rep. Cliff Bentz, Rep. Jules Bailey, Rep. Sara Gelser, Rep. Tobias Read, and Rep. Matt Wand.

We need to keep making our voice heard! Please contact your legislators and urge them to oppose the costly, risky CRC highway mega-project promoted by HJM 22. Contact the members of the committee as well. Contact information is at www.leg.state.or.us. More about HJM 22 at BikePortland

Another bill, HB 3158, was passed to the House Ways and Means Committee. The bill is seen as a blank slate for CRC-related issues, perhaps for legislative oversight efforts. As the content is not finalized, we have yet to take a position on it.
