A Disturbing Track Record for Mega-Projects Like the CRC

Evan Manvel has dug into the expert reports available on mega-projects and has found some very costly trends. Over the past 70 years and across 20 countries, 90% of mega-projects like the Columbia River Crossing have gone over budget. Bridge projects in particular have gone over by an average of 34%, which would mean an addition $1.224 billion to the projected $3.6 billion. With the recent examples of the Aerial Tram and the rebuild of US20 between Corvalis and Newport, we know that Oregon is not immune to this phenomenon.
