Portland Metro Regional Transportation Plan Increases Global Warming Pollution Nearly 50%
Metro recently released data showing that the $14- 20 Billion in projects proposed for the region's transportation system would increase global warming pollution by 49%. More startling, this projection is worse than building nothing for the next 25 years.
Coalition for a Livable has released an analysis of the Regional Transportation Plan, including a critique that the region plans to spend billions on road expansions. This massive road expansion plan will undermine Metro’s goals because it increases global warming pollution, adds traffic, encourages low-density development, increase air toxics, and discourages walking and biking.
