Creekside Woods Opens Affordable Apartments for Seniors
On Tuesday, December 7th, representatives from Northwest Housing Alternatives (NHA) and development partners gathered to celebrate the grand opening of Creekside Woods, a new housing development for seniors with low incomes in Wilsonville, Oregon. Scheduled speakers at the open house event included Wilsonville Mayor Tim Knapp, Clackamas County Commissioner Charlotte Lehan, Victor Merced of Oregon Housing and Community Services and a representative of HUD.“We’re really excited about these affordable and beautiful new apartments for seniors in Wilsonville. Helping folks age in place is an important part of a complete community,” said Martha McLennan, NHA’s Executive Director.
Creekside Woods provides 84 one- and two-bedroom apartments for senior independent living. 44 of the apartments, reserved for people age 62 or older, are subsidized through HUD’s 202 program that creates affordable housing options for seniors who earn low incomes. Tenants in these units will pay 30% of their income toward rent. 39 units are available to people age 55 or older who earn a qualifying low income. These units rent below market rate. The final apartment is for the on-site property manager.
Creekside features a large community room with a fireplace and kitchen, activity lounges on each floor, and a computer center. Each apartment has a spacious floor plan and fully equipped kitchens with Energy Star appliances and European style cabinetry. The property was built with many green features to ensure healthy and energy efficient living spaces.
Located in an attractive wooded setting in the Wilsonville town center area, Creekside Woods is within walking distance of shopping, community services, the library, parks, cultural events and the local fareless transit system. Creekside includes an innovative sky bridge that links the building directly to the Wilsonville Community Center which provides senior meals and services, a physical fitness center, and offers a wide array of free or low-cost classes and activities. Tenants at Creekside Woods also have access to NHA’s Resident Services team members who link tenants to needed community-based services so they can be stable in their homes and keep connected to friends, family and the larger community.
Creekside Woods financing partners include: HUD, National Equity Fund, Network for Oregon Affordable Housing, the City of Wilsonville, Clackamas Community Development, Wells Fargo Bank and the Energy Trust of Oregon.
