CLF and other environmental leaders take aim at the latest on the CRC megabridge

CLF partnered with Upstream Public Health, Environment Oregon, Oregon League of Conservation Voters and Bicycle Transportation Alliance to pen a new critique of the latest chapter in the Columbia River Crossing saga. With about $100 million spent already, we're still not seeing a plan to meet 21st century needs.

A panel of reviewers, created by the Governor's of both states, to assess the plan recently released a new study that levied some major critiques of the current plan. It said:

This type of stacked freeway bridge has never been done before.  Therefore, we don’t know if it’s doable and we have no idea what it will really cost. A similarly designed bridge in Japan cost three times what was projected and is already cracking.  The report indicated that the project's tolling and finance plan are not well thought out. They
“unresolved issues remain to the south threaten the viability of the project.”
