14 Groups Respond to the Governors on the CRC
The negative impacts of the Columbia River Crossing megabridge, coupled with a poor public process and very high cost, have eroded public trust and created an extraordinarily expensive project while leaving many essential transportation needs unmet.
In January, four local elected officials - Portland Mayor Sam Adams, Vancouver Mayor Tim Leavitt, Metro Council President David Bragdon, and Clark County Commissioner Steve Stuart - wrote a letter to Oregon Governor Kulongoski and Washington Governor Gregoire, seeking to address serious flaws in the current plan. The Governors wrote back rejecting the request by local officials. They directed their staff to keep moving forward despite local concerns and offered a greatly scaled back project review.
In response, fourteen public interest groups from Oregon and Washington have sent a letter to Governors Gregoire and Kulongoski raising serious concerns with the Columbia River Crossing project and asking the governors to reconsider their response to requests from local elected officials.
The letter from the groups, including CLF, is available here.
