Street
Roots recently profiled 211Info, the nonprofit referral center for
community services that fielded over 100,000 calls last year.Calls to 211Info have increased significantly
in the last year due to the recession, and foreclosure-related calls more than
quadrupled between 2008 and 2009.
In addition to discussing the vital work they do helping
people connect to social services and “navigate the often unwieldy bureaucracy
of government assistance,” the story also highlighted the work 211Info is doing in conjunction with Coalition for a Livable Future
to map social services in the Portland Metro region.
Using the maps from CLF’s
Regional Equity Atlas, 211Info is mapping the locations of social service centers. The information will provide a snapshot of
where social services are located around the region, and will help show to what
extent services are located in places where low-income communities can access
them.It will be a tool to assess where
the gaps exist generally as well as for specific populations.
