Coalition for a Livable Future's
10th Annual Regional Livability Summit

Friday, October 12, 2012
Portland State University

The Regional Livability Summit is an annual gathering of regional leaders and community members, ranging from policy advocates and student activists to government staff and elected officials. This diverse group comes together to discuss strategic linkages between the wide range of issues involved in creating a sustainable and just future for the Portland metropolitan region.

Announcing the 2012 Keynote Speaker: Angela Glover Blackwell, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, PolicyLink

Angela Glover Blackwell founded PolicyLink in 1999 and continues to drive its mission of advancing economic and social equity. Under Blackwell’s leadership, PolicyLink has become a leading voice in the movement to use public policy to improve access and opportunity for all low-income people and communities of color, particularly in the areas of health, housing, transportation, education, and infrastructure. CLF Is Preparing for Equity Atlas 2.0

The Regional Equity Atlas maps equity conditions in the greater metropolitan region. By measuring access to opportunities like affordable housing, transit, parks and grocery stores, the Atlas illustrates which people and places have the best access and which ones have the worst access to these important assets. Visit www.equityatlas.org to learn more about it.

Right now we are beginning work to develop the next iteration of the Regional Equity Atlas with 2010 Census data.

Shift the Balance and the Columbia River Crossing Mega-Project

Shift the Balance is our program to influence major transportation decisions in the region.  Projects include Columbia River Crossing (CRC) Mega-Project, Metro's Regional Transportation Plan Update and Climate Scenarios, Transportation System Plan updates in Portland and Gresham, and building common capacity to engage through the Transportation Health Equity Network. Learn more about regional transportation issues and how we're trying to shift the balance towards a more sustainable and equitable transportation system.

The CRC Mega-project is the most expensive public works project in our region's history. Expected to cost $3.6 billion, and billions more in interest costs, the project would expand five miles of Interstate 5 between North Portland and Vancouver, WA. The current approach is ineffective, irresponsible, and based on false assumptions. It would put the region at significant financial risk.

We support real solutions to the challenges we face. A less expensive, more environmentally friendly approach can create jobs while addressing freight and traffic issues. For more information about CLF's efforts to change the direction of the CRC highway mega-project click here.

Legislative Agenda for Oregon

Coalition for a Livable Future supported 2011 Oregon legislation our members and partners promoted for a just and sustainable Portland-Vancouver region. Both a short and descriptive version of our legislative agenda is available.

These bills support the vision of CLF’s Regional Equity Atlas Project for healthy people, healthy places, and a healthy public process.
